FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Kiel, WI. June 1, 2026 –HUI Manufacturing, Kiel High School, and the City of Kiel recently partnered up to make a series of improvements to Waack Park’s Born Learning Trail. Waack Park is located near the Rockville Subdivision on the east side of Kiel.
The Born Learning Trail is an early childhood development program, offered through the United Way, that aims to establish vital pathways for success in school and life. Each Trail features interactive stations with tips and tools that help young children engage in play-based learning activities. The installations at Waack Park are sponsored and supported by Kiel High School, The City of Kiel, and HUI Manufacturing.
HUI Manufacturing’s President Tim Jandrey expressed pride for HUI’s continued support. He stated, “HUI is centric around kids and community – The Born Learning Trail is a perfect fit for us, and we are proud to continue supporting the activities at Waack Park that help young children learn and develop.”
Along the Born Learning Trail, families will experience a series of small signs with short instructions that help young children utilize their imagination, learn their shapes and colors, and develop their mobility skills. The specific activities that required updates were the leapfrog station and the children’s playhouse.
HUI Manufacturing Design Engineer Wayne Schad explained the initiatives. He stated, “As we approached the updates for the playhouse and leapfrog activities – our goal was to improve the activities while making them more visible and durable for future generations.”
Updates to the Born Learning Trail at Waack Park included the removal of old leapfrog stones and the installation of buried timber posts that children can leap over.
The small playhouse also had a few issues, so it was removed and replaced with an improved structural design that will provide a more open space and better resistance to weather.
The new playhouse was designed and built by the Kiel High School shop class students.
Kiel High School Tech Instructor Ted Bonde expressed the value for the high school students and the exercise “It’s a fun activity for the class. Plus, any contribution that helps our kids add value to the community they will one day be a part of - is a win for us”
