Our History

Founded in 1933, HUI is an ISO-certified contract manufacturer with expertise in sheet metal fabrication, design engineering, powder coating, and assembly. HUI specializes in industrial and medical product fabrication and serves customers nationwide.

Kurt Bell, HUI’s CEO, joined the company in 1993 as a scheduler. In 1998 Kurt led HUI’s journey into LEAN Manufacturing ringing in a new era of agility and service to our customers. At this time, HUI expanded into manufacturing custom carts for the medical device industry.  

By building on the efficiencies gained through LEAN, leveraging a team-based environment, and responding to customer requests, HUI attained ISO 9001 Certification in 2011, and ISO 13485 Certification in 2014.

We started with a simple idea.

HUI’s evolution over the last 81 years speaks to our ability to change rapidly based on our commitment to listen to our customers’ needs. In 1998, HUI began to reshape and build the company for the 21st century.  As we turned a mirror on ourselves, we began to ask very tough questions about our ability to be “different” in an increasingly fast-paced and shrinking world.

Internally, we realized that we had to make every effort possible to leverage our greatest resources: the people and culture of HUI. Externally, we emphasized the need to morph from a component supplier to a solution provider in the eyes of the marketplace. 

 As these forces have matured and grown, and as we continue to improve and evolve, we now find ourselves with an empowered, motivated, agile, and exceptionally fast organization. At HUI, we measure our performance based on two simple factors: the success of our customers and the growth of our people.
